When Michael Phelps eats 5x a standard day’s food, does he also eat the same 5x of all nutrients?
presidentrichardnixon asked:
For example, Michael Phelps eats 8000-12000 calories a day depending on which source I read. Lets suppose it’s 10,000 per day, and the recommended daily allowance for much of the population is 2000 per day, then does Michael Phelps also eat 5x the saturated fat, 5x the sodium, 5x vitamin A, etc?
Can anyone actually read the question correctly before answering?

I guess so. The food you eat has nutrients so if you eat a ton of food i would think you are also gaining a ton of nutrients.

phelps does eat a lot of calories per day but he also burning the calories off in his daily workouts and his training. He has to eat a lot more calories then the average person because he burns more calories so he needs a lot more food to give him the certain amount of nutrients he needs. He burns almost 4000 calories in a single workout

I don’t know about the fat/sodium stuff etc…..
But I wonder if he poops 5X as much as the average person too. I would assume so. So when he says eat, sleep swim…what he really means is eat, sleep, swim, ****.

I don’t think so. When you see the list of what he eats, it mostly carbs and proteins which will help him store energy and feed his muscles. There aren’t that many nutrients in what he eats.
Also, there are some vitamins and minerals that are toxic to the body when taken in high doses (ex. Zinc, Vitamin A). It would be incredibly risky for an athlete of his caliber to be taking 5 times the recommended dose of those few vitamins/minerals.

i don’t think he eats 5x the saturated fat or the sodium because then it would be very unhealthy for him, for the other nutrients he might get 5x of it
sorry it’s not that clear

This is for the olympics only. For the olympics, Michael Phelps does nothing in moderation. He eats this excess amount of calories because the man burns that much calories in his practices - for the olympics.
I don’t think he maintains this diet on a regular basis.
THE AVERAGE MAN DOES’NT DO WHAT MICHAEL PHELPS DOES - RIGHT NOW. I have read where marathoners eat sticks of margarine before races to build their carbs. I don’t think short term will hurt him, as long as he is utilizing it all. However, many olympic atheltes have damaged themselves for the sake of their sport.

I would say no because what he eats pizza, pasta, sandwiches. Every single day. Drinks coffee and tons of energy drinks. Mostly an unhealthy but calorie rich diet.
