Why cant China cancel Summer Olympics in 2008?

Where do u get your info? Your info is incorrect. There is a smog problem in almost every major city in the world.

further more, the chinese government are doing things to reduce it too. My family and I had been living here for the past 8 yrs and none of us had any problem with the air.

When the Olympics were in Mexico City there were also concerns about smog and air quality.
The big problem was the altitude which adversely affected endurance athletes.
It really doesn’t matter about pollution or the host country’s human rights positions the Olympics are not going to be canceled.

Why would they. There were concerns in 68 Mexico City, ‘84 in LA ‘88 in Seoul ‘04 in Athens. But those all went off with a hitch and all mentioned were actually great games.

You don’t just cancel the Olympics . Every thing is taken into consideration when the committee choose the cities that are biding for the Olympics years before they are to be held.

the IOC is monitoring the air pollution daily and have thought about postponing the olympics if it does get worse, in saying that the IOC also agrees that china have been and are doing all they can to bring levels within the guidelines.

The five measures include:
According to the Olympic competitions, the air quality during the race, some polluting enterprises to limit production, temporary shutdown or further relocation, and other measures;
Beijing next year from vehicle exhaust emission standards for Europe - III raised to European standards - IV standards;
For 20 tons following a shutdown of the coal-fired boiler and limit production;
In view of this year, Beijing will limit Single and Double of the interim measures for air pollution index fell 15% -20% in 2002, when the Olympic Games is expected to adopt a similar interim measures;
